I am often asked how I began in photography. Although many years ago I owned a film SLR I was neither very skilled nor passionate about photography. That all changed in Sept 2005 on a scuba trip to Cozumel Mx with my wife Jacque & three very close friends. I bought an underwater housing for our little point & shoot camera because it was very important that I bring home a few photos to share with our friends and family. Jacque loved photos & we knew that this was the first scuba experience for a few of us, and also the last trip we would share with Jacque. She was losing her battle with cancer, but in spite of that Jacque dove 3-5 dives every day and had in her words; "A glorious time!". My friend Charles & I would share the underwater photography duties on the dives. I would shoot landscapes between dives & just after sunrise in San Miquel.
Jacque left us in Feb 2006. Our time together was far too short but she gave me two very great gifts for the road ahead. I would have never tried scuba diving were it not for her and the urgency of her circumstance. I now have over 200 dives. Because of a few photographs I captured on that first trip & on several trips afterward; the encouragement of friends & family lead me to a passionate pursuit of photography. Jacque loved this world. Far more so than I. One of her many legacies is that I love it a little more every time I am behind the lens or under the sea. With every image that I share this is what I strive for; that you will love this world with a little of the passion and exuberance that she did.
Enjoy, Glen
